The Juneau STEAM Coalition is an open community group and welcomes participation. Whether you want to be informed about STEAM issues, join a team to address a STEAM issue in Juneau, or help drive the direction of STEAM in Juneau, we need you and have a place for you. Read below for more specifics about what we do and how you can help. Get involved today :).
STEAM EVENTS for students. Typically, each year we put on several city/district-wide events and support school or site-specific STEAM events for students. We always need help organizing beforehand and on the day of. We need STEAM experts to run activities for participants and we need other volunteers to assist and support those presenters and the partcipants. Curiosity Unleashed is our big community-wide STEAM event for K-5 families and happens mid-winter. Individual elementary schools host STEAM Nights or Days throughout the year and always need similar help.
STEAM Cafe is a new event that we’re inaugurating Sept. 14. We would love to get 1-2 volunteers to help us make it a recurring event. See the main page for more information.
The STEAM Summit is an event typically held in the spring for the adult STEAM community to come together to learn from each other about the STEAM work being done throughout Juneau: pre-K through university.
Curiosity Bridges is our newsletter that comes out every other month, early May, July, September, November, etc. We’d love finding and writing articles, gathering photos, events, links and anything else that will help connect our STEAM community.
What’s Going On in This Alaska Graph? is a data visualization project that finds or creates Alaska-specific data visualizations and prepares them (slides, background info, questions, links) for teachers. Additionally, students can write in their comments on the website and we respond. We’d love help with all aspects of this project.
And, if you’d like to join our core group, we meet via zoom on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of the month, 8:30-9:30 am. Email us if you’d like to attend.
